GHMC meet fails to transact any business
Hyderabad, February 2 (INN): The ordinary meeting of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation was adjourned without transacting any business on Saturday.
The meeting, which was convened after a gap of almost nine months, had a storm start on Saturday.
As soon as the council met at around 11.30 am, the MIM corporators led by MLCs Altaf Hyder Razvi and Ameenul-Hasan Jaffri surrounding the podium of GHMC Mayor Mohammad Majid Hussain while raising slogans demanding release of MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi.
They also shouted slogans like "CM Down-Down". However, the Congress corporators countered the MIM's slogans by shouting "Mayor Down-Down".
Within four minutes, the GHMC Mayor walked out of the council hall leaving behind the protesting corporators.
While the MIM and Congress corporators were shouting slogans with each other, BJP Corporators were seen speaking to GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu.
Soon they too started shouting slogans against the Mayor. The Commissioner too left the council hall along with other officials at about 11.38 AM.
The MIM and Congress corporators continued their uproar by standing on the tables and chairs in the council hall. The Telugu Desam Party corporators were reduced to mere spectators.
At around 11.46 AM, YSR Congress corporators including Kaleru Venkatesh and Hari Vardhan Reddy joined the melee and started shouting slogans demanding release of YSRCP president Jaganmohan Reddy.
Meanwhile, the GHMC Mayor returned to his seat at about 11.52 AM. However, he failed to bring order in the House and finally adjourned the council till February 6.
