Suspense on producing Pothula Suresh in court Anantapur: Former Maoist and founder of Peoples War Reorganisation Committee (RoC), Pothula Suresh was arrested by the Anantapur district special police in Udhna town in Surat district in Gujarat on Friday afternoon. He is expected to be produced before the Anantapur district magistrate tonight. Suresh, a close aide of the late Penugonda TDP MLA and faction leader Partitala Ravindra aka Ravi, went underground following the killing of Ravi on January 24, 2005. He is accused in about 15 cases, including murder cases.
On Friday, news broke out that Suresh was taken into custody in Udhna town. Its been a long and tedious wait for both mediapersons and Vavilala Sunita, wife of Pothula Suresh, today at the District Court as SP M K Sinha said Suresh was likely to be produced in the court or at the Magistrates house. However, nothing happened till 9 pm. It is now expected that he might be produced late in the night or early on Sunday morning. Suresh, according to Sunita, spoke with her over phone on Friday morning and conveyed Deepavali greetings.
But around noon, she said she received another call from a contact that Suresh had been kidnapped by four masked men. Sunita alerted the electronic media and demanded that Suresh should be produced in the court as she feared that the police might bump him off in a fake encounter. Sunita, an ex-MPP of Alampur, who unsuccessfully contested on the TDP ticket from Alampur Assembly seat in the last elections, rushed to Anantapur when she was told that Suresh would be produced before the district court.
Though, initially the district police did not react on the reports of Sureshs arrest, on Friday evening SP Sinha confirmed the arrest and said that Suresh would be produced in the Anantapur district court on Saturday. Sunita came with about 100 supporters to the court in the morning and has since been waiting there. The same is the case with mediapersons.
Initial reports suggested that the special police have shifted Suresh from Surat to Bangalore and from there he would be brought to Anantapur by road. But unconfirmed reports gave another version. According to them, Suresh has already been brought to the Police OSDs office. Since SP Sinha was in Puttaparthy, the officials have been waiting for his return to the town to take the next step. However, SP Sinha maintained that Suresh would be produced before the magistrate at night.
