Devotees flock to Indrakeeladri on Akshaya Tritya eve Vijayawada, May 5 (INN): Lakhs of devotees thronged the temple of Goddess Kanaka Durga at Indrakeeladri Hill on the eve of Akshaya Tritiya, one of the most auspicious days of the year as per the Hindu calendar. The Akshaya Tritiya falls on Friday.
The devotees, particularly women, had made a beeline to the city ghats to take a holy dip since Thursday morning, following which they offered puja and special prayers to mark the occasion.
The auspicious occasion also saw weddings taking place in many families. The wedding season reaches a peak before the Akshaya Tritiya and many mass marriages are being performed.
As per the Hindu calendar, the people believe that Akshaya Tritiya will bring good luck and prosperity for the entire family. Couples organize Annaprasanna and Aksharabhyasam for their children and invite vedic pundits to conduct the rituals.
Meanwhile, new businesses are launched on this auspicious day, and foundation stones are laid for construction of new houses. Meanwhile, the Sri Kanaka Durga Devathanam Authorities have made special arrangements to meet the huge rush of pilgrims expected to visit the hill shrine.
According to sources, the day is ruled by Lord Vishnu, the preserver-god in Hindu Trinity and it is also believed that the Ganga, the holiest and most sacred river in the country, descended on the Earth from Heavens on this day.
