Thieves kill old widow, flee with gold Guntur, May 6 (INN): A 75-year-old woman was brutally bludgeoned to death by unidentified thieves who then stole around 16 tolas of gold ornaments from her residence on the Suryalanka Bus Stand Road, Bapatla mandal in Guntur, during the wee hours of Friday.
According to Inspector Jagadish Reddy, the victim was identified as V Vara Lakshmi, widow of Subba Rao. After Mr Subba Rao's death, Vara Lakshmi was living with her younger son Satyanarayana.
Satyanarayana had gone with his family to attend the marriage of his relatives and returned home to find his mother in a pool of blood early on Friday.
The police were duly informed and during investigations they discovered that the unidentified killers broke into the residence late in the night. The police believe that Vara Lakshmi may have been alerted and the thieves bludgeoned her to death with a blunt object. She died on the spot.
They then fled the house after laying their hands on four bangles, a gold chain, ear studs. The stolen ornaments weigh around 16 tolas, as claimed by Satyanarayana.
The body has been sent for autopsy and further investigations are on. A case has been registered under Sections 302 and 380 IPC and a manhunt has been launched to nab the absconding offenders.
