Very informative article.
Kindly try to explain us the subtle difference between different 'synonymous' words in Sanskrit like 'suhrit', 'mitra', 'aapta' etc. Incidentally, it may throw more light on the requirements of a 'friend'!
Any way, I consider the quality of 'being extremely happy when something good happens to his friend as well as feeling sad/bad in his friend's bad times' as the prerequisite of a real friend.
Hope you agree. This will automatically exclude
today's 'commercial' friends, whose sole purpose is 'symbiosis' in good days, 'parasitism' in glorious days & 'touch-me-not'ism in the counter-part's hard days.

Grandpa, I have lot many friends. Ofcourse they are good too. Friendship forms based on many factors. Each friendship is different. But as far as I am concerned, though I value it a lot, I am not fancy or crazy about it.
Those friends whom I loved the most, both in girls and boys, gave me a very big hand and cheated me. Even god too whom I treated as my best of the bests. So the definitions or descriptions as such does not move me.
I still respect f'ship a lot. But there are few who deserve true f'ship. It is better not to feel so earnest about all these things. As long as u live, be good and do good. This is my policy.
It is just cheating our own self if we feel someone as ours. It did hurt in the long run. No one ever belongs to us. All these proverbs or whatever you call are just to give a hope which humans badly need. But in reality, it is ur destiny that decides ur fate.
