New Delhi: In a reshuffle of portfolios in the Union Council of Ministers, S. Jaipal Reddy has been moved out of Information and Broadcasting Ministry. He will from now on take charge of Urban Development, while retaining the portfolio of Culture.
Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi will be the new Information and Broadcasting Minister in addition to being the Parliamentary Affairs Minister. Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises Minister Santosh Mohan Deb has been given the additional charge of Water Resources, till now held by Dasmunshi.
Oscar Fernandes, who is holding charge of Statistics and Programme Implementation, gets the additional portfolios of Sports and Youth Affairs and Overseas Indians.Both Deb and Fernandes are Ministers of State with independent charge.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will retain External Affairs and Coal portfolios. He took over External Affairs from Natwar Singh, who was relieved of the portfolio in the wake of controversy over the Volcker Committee report. Coal has been with the PM since the resignation of JMM leader Shibhu Soren last year.
