Burgula Ramakrishna Rao (1899 - 1967)
Burgula Ramakrishna Rao was an eminent personality in Intellectual as well as Political Circles of erstwhile Hyderabad Dynasty. Mr. Rao was a a staunch support of Indian Nationalism, Intellectual Personality. He worked as Chief Minister in 1952 for the erstwhile Hyderabad Dynasty and was responsible for various land reforms initiated for the welfare of people. Broadminded, conscious about welfare of the people. Keeping in view these aspects, he strongly advocated for the then unavoidable merger of Telangana and Andhra Regions for forming integrated Andhra Pradesh. This was a specific symbol for his political maturity and wisdom.
Born on March 13, 1899 to Smt. Ranganayakamma and Sri NarasimhaRao in Padakal village of Mahabubnagar District of Andhra Pradesh. While the Andhra State was formed with the sacrifice of the life of Sri Potti Sriramulu consequent upon 56-day strike/fast, the further sacrifice and political wisdom of Mr.Burgula brought the integrated 'Andhra Pradesh' State was a foregone conclusion. His political talents were further added with multi-linguistic awareness on languages of Sanskrit, Urdu, Persian, Kannada, Marathi in addition to English and of course his mother tongue - Telugu. He was a great writer in both Urdu and Telugu languages and authored many essays published by Andhra Saraswata Parishad.
'Had he not agreed to the merger of Telangana and Andhra Regions, the present shape of Andhra Pradesh would have become a dream even today', once said the former Editor of Andhra Bhumi Telugu Daily, Sri Gora Sastry. Both as Administrator, Politician and Language and Literature Personality, Mr.Rao had extended many services to the Andhra Pradesh and its people. Mr.Rao died while was 69, on 14 September 1967. Mr. Burgula Ramakrishna Rao is still remembered as one of the few unquestionable intellectual personalities without any controversy at any point of his leadership and career.
