Though boys slightly outnumbered girls in the overall group of identified child laborers, in sectors such as domestic work and babysitting, girls outnumbered boys.
Gender parity:
In sectors such as beedi-rolling and match and explosives industry, there was some level of gender parity.
Boys outnumbered girls in some occupations and processes such as construction, shops and establishments and the hospitality sector.
In the automobile industry, boys were in exclusive group. There was no instance of girls working in this sector.
Seasonal jobs:
The survey found that 17 percent of those identified was in the informal economy, without any stable employment, but nevertheless doing varying occupations in accordance with demand and supply, mostly doing seasonal jobs and otherwise helping their parents in household chores.
About 26 percent of those identified said they were not interested in education.
This underscored the importance of revamping the educational system and making it child-friendly, the audit said.
National Child Labour Projects (NCLP):
This is the major scheme for the rehabilitation of child labour. Under the scheme, Project Societies at the district level are fully funded for opening up of special school/Rehabilitation Centres for the rehabilitation of child labour.
The special schools/Rehabilitation Centres provide non-formal education, vocational training, supplementary nutrition, stipend etc. to children withdrawn from employment.
The child workers identified in the survey are put in the special schools and provided the following facilities:
a)Non-formal/formal education
b)Skilled/craft training
c)Supplementary nutrition @ Rs. 5/- per child per day
d)Stipend @ Rs. 100/- per child per month
e)Health care facilities through a doctor appointed for a group of 20 schools.
