Polling peaceful in Telangana Hyderabad, Dec 7 (INN): Barring a few incidents of violence, polling for 119 seats of Telangana Legislative Assembly passed off peacefully on Friday.
Polling began at 7 am across the State. However, the polling process was affected in a few polling booths due to technical glitches in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). In the first election of Telangana State, a tough contest was witnessed between the ruling TRS and People's Front comprising of Congress, TDP, TJS and CPI. BJP and MIM were other major contenders in the elections.
Several incidents of clashes between the workers of different political parties were reported from across the State. In Kalwakurthy, Congress candidate Vamshichand Reddy was injured in attack allegedly by BJP and TRS workers. He was attacked when he visited a polling bOoth in Jangareddy Palle in Amangal mandal.
Clashes between TRS and Congress workers were also reported from Kodangal constituency. TRS candidate P. Narender Reddy's convoy was stopped by Congress workers when he was proceeding to a polling station in Kosgi. The Congress workeRs alleged that TRS candidate was carrying lethal weapons in the vehicles.
Five persons were injured in a clash between the Congress and TRS workers was also reported in Eialammakunta of Nizamabad district. Another clash was reported from Khanapur mandal of Warangal Rural. Tension prevailed in Ibrahimpatnam when TRS and BJP workers prevented Congress candidate P. Sabitha Indira Reddy from entering a polling booth. In Goshamahal constituency, Vikram Goud, son of Congress candidate Mukesh Goud, was allegedly attacked by BJP workers in Dhoolpet area.
Overall, barring a few incidents, the polling has been peaceful across the Telangana State.
