New CJ of AP High Court to take oath on May 21 HYDERABAD: Justice Kalyan Jyoti Sengupta was appointed as the new chief justice of Andhra Pradesh. Governor ESL Narasimhan will administer the oath to Justice Sengupta at the Raj Bhavan here on May 21.
Sources in the judiciary said that the President had approved the appointment of justice KJ Sengupta as the chief justice of the Andhra Pradesh High Court and it was communicated to the state government by the Union law ministry.
Justice Sengupta began his career as a lawyer at the Calcutta High Court in the 1970s and rose to become a judge there.
He was born on May 7, 1953 and enrolled as an advocate on April 21, 1981. He practised as High Court advocate in civil, criminal and constitutional matters. He was appointed as a permanent judge of the Calcutta High Court on July 17, 1997 and assumed charge as acting chief justice on October 5, 2012.
He was transferred to the Uttarakhand High Court on October 18. Currently, Sengupta is the second senior-most judge of the Uttarakhand HC.
