Over 100 held as OU students conduct 'Beef Festival' Hyderabad, Dec 10 (INN): Defying a ban imposed by the Hyderabad High Court and City Police, a group of students conducted 'Beef Festival' in the premises of Osmania University.
Some students posted pictures on the social network sites claiming that they had organised the 'Beef Festival' in the hostel near Arts College on Thursday. More than 100 people, including both in favour and against the festival, were taken into custody by the Hyderabad City Police since early hours of Thursday. BJP MLA T. Raja Singh, who had vowed to stop the 'beef festival', and MBT leader and ex-Corporator Amjed Ullah Khan, who was supporting the organisers, were taken into custody and shifted to different police stations.
Curfew like situation prevailed in the OU camps as large number of police personnel was deployed to prevent any untoward incident. Restrictions were imposed on the movement of people and vehicles. Barricades were erected at all the vantage points of the university.
A senior journalist, Nikhila Henry, working with the Hindu Daily, was injured in the police lathicharge while she was covering the development. The journalists' unions have strongly condemned the incident and demanded action against the erring police officials.
