Vigil on terror activities will be intensified: DGP Hyderabad, Dec 30 (INN): Telangana Director General of Police Anurag Sharma on Wednesday said that the State Police was probing into media reports which claimed that Kashmir separatist leader Asiya Andrabi had visited the state earlier.
Addressing the Annual Press Meet along with Hyderabad Commissioner M. Mahender Reddy, Cyberabad Commissioner C.V. Anand and other senior office, the DGP said that the Telangana Police was not in receipt of any request from Jammu & Kashmir Government seeking details of Asiya Andrabi's visit to Hyderabad. He also denied that three youths, who were arrested recently for allegedly planning to join jihadi terror groups, had ever met Asiya Andrabi.
The DGP said that the Telangana Police had kept a strict vigil on terror groups, suspects and related activities. He said it was due to alertness of police that three city-based cousins - Mohd Abdulla Basith, Maaz Hasan Farooq and Syed Omer Farooq Hussaini were arrested.
Furnishing the crime statistics, Anurag Sharma said that there has been a slight decrease in the overall crime rate in Telangana State in 2015. However, the incidents of rape and crime against women have registered an increase. As on November 2015, a total of 92,685 cases were registered across the State. The figure was 93,439 last year. This year 1020 rape cases were reported which is higher than last year. As against 991 murders last year, this year 1032 people were murdered. As many as 12,422 incidents of Crime Against Women were reported this year. A total of 678 Cyber Crimes were registered in 2015 while they were 634 last year.
A total of 6,495 people lost their lives in road accidents across the Telangana State this year. The DGP said a separate department would be set up to prevent road accidents in active coordination with the National and State Highway Authorities.
The DGP said there were no reports of fresh recruitments in outlawed Maoists organisation. He said several prominent Maoists leaders were either arrested or they surrendered before the police this year.
The DGP said that the Telangana Police have initiated Friendly Policing programme and social media is being used very effectively. He said that the Law & Order situation was being monitored effectively.
Anurag Sharma said that the Telangana Police has been facing huge staff crunch. As against the sanctioned strength of 67,000 posts, presently only 45,000 personnel are working. He said that the process of filling up vacant posts would be initiated soon.
