Don't give RTC land to Ganta's company Visakhapatnam : After facing rough weather from NGOs and social activists for acquiring District Library land, Pratyusha Company, promoted by Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, is facing strong opposition for proposing to take over RTC Complex land at Narsipatnam in Visakhapatnam district for construction of a multiplex.
Raising objections over the fresh allotment to Pratyusha Company, former civil servant EAS Sarma, in a letter to Chief Secretary PK Mohanty, said the public land under the occupation of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) was apparently government land given to that corporation for the specific public purpose of setting up a bus complex.
Such land cannot, in turn, be alienated by APSRTC to a private party as it would then constitute a breach of trust on the part of APSRTC. 'The corporation is not empowered to permit such alienation for putting the land to commercial use. Therefore, the proposal is prima facie illegal.
In case the APSRTC tries to alienate the land to the private company, it should automatically goes back to the government,' he said. Mr Sarma said Pratyusha Company has had a poor track record in utilising the public lands taken from various government agencies.
The company was supposed to commission its project at the site belonging to the District Central Library (Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha) within two years from the date of government order, but it had failed to comply with the conditions stipulated.
'As such, it is an ineligible party to whom no such projects should be entrusted,' he told the Chief Secretary. 'The company is engaged in offering offshore steward services. It is surprising how the government agencies have been considering the company as eligible for offering services in other fields.
