Groom dies of sun stroke just before wedding

HYDERABAD: Severe heat wave conditions prevailing in the state has claimed the life of a youth in Nalgonda district on Saturday.

In a tragic twist of fate, the 30-year old youth, who was to enter wedlock on Saturday morning, died of sun stroke minutes before the event, leaving his family in a deep shock.

The incident happened at Indrapalanagaram (Tummalagudem) in Ramanapeta mandal of Nalgonda district. R Srinivas, a resident of Bhongir, was an autorickshaw driver. He was to marry Ramanamma of Indirapalanagaram on Saturday morning.

On Friday he suffered sun stroke and started vomiting. His family members rushed him to hospital in Bhongir and later shifted him to a private hospital in Hyderabad.

After being administered medicines to control sugar levels, he was discharged on Friday night. At around 7 a.m. on Saturday, he suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. The reason for death was stated to be raise in sugar levels and failure of heart due to sun stroke.

This is the second death reported in the state due to sun stroke. On May 12, a 67-year-old man Y Pullaiah of S Kinnerapuram village in Attili mandal of West Godavari district also died of sun stroke.

In the last couple of days mercury levels have shot up converting some places in Telangana and Coastal Andhra into veritable furnaces.

The average temperatures recorded in the state hovered between 40-42 degrees Celsius. On Saturday, the highest temperature of 45 degrees was recorded at Rentachintala and Ramagundam.

Met department predicts heat wave conditions would prevail in Nellore, Prakasham, Guntur and Krishna in Coastal Andhra and Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, Nalgonda and Adilabad of Telangana during the next two days.

According to experts, the variation in the temperature is within normal range and the present heat wave conditions are due to northwesterly winds. The northwesterly winds currently sweeping the state have come over land and carried no moisture.

Further, people are experiencing more heat though they are within normal levels in the month of May, due to a sudden dip in temperatures due to the impact of Mahasen cyclone, which after wrecking havoc on the coast of Bangladesh, weakened into deep depresssion. After a brief break the temperatures were back to normal.

Hyderabad, which recorded 40 degrees Celsius, it was three degrees above normal. Similarly it was three degrees above normal in Ramagundam (45), Nellore (44), Ongole (43) and Rentachintala (45). It was two degree above normal in Nalgonda (43), Anantapur (41), Kurnool (42) and Tirupati (43), but five degrees above normal in Arogyavaram (40).

Met officials predict that heat wave conditions will prevail in the next two days in coastal and Telangana regions of the state.
