Kukatpally-Hitec city ROB finally opened HYDERABAD: After a long wait, the Kukatpally-Hitec city road over bridge (ROB) was finally inaugurated amidst sloganeering by Congress and Lok Satta party workers here on Saturday morning.
The ROB was inaugurated by Union minister of state for transport and highways Sarve Satyanarayana, and muncipal administration minister M Maheedhar Reddy as chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was away in Delhi.
Speaking on the occasion Satyanarayana said that would ask the state government to name the new bridge as 'YSR-PJR' ROB, as the project was initiated by the late chief minster YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
The 910 m-bridge that would provide relief to thousands of commuters from gridlock, had witnessed many hiccups and delays.
The RoB starts at the Hi-Tec City railway station on the spinal road and connects Kukatpally Housing Board Phase IV. The RoB was proposed to ease traffic around Hi-Tec City.
The initial cost of the project was `26 crore. But delays in completing the project shot the project cost to `56 crore.
The RoB works were taken up in 2007 and the project was scheduled to be completed in 15 months by August 2008.
However, things went sour between the Southern Central Railway and HMDA, as the SCR was responsible for shifting of utilities like water and sewage lines over the railway track where the RoB was to be constructed.
Hyderabad Mayor M Majid Hussain and Kukatpally MLA Jayaprakash Narayan were also present at the inauguration of the ROB.
