Govt taking people for a ride: Vijayamma

Kagajnagar, May 21, 2013: YSR Congress Party honourary president Smt. Y.S. Vijayamma on Tuesday charged the Kiran Kumar Reddy-led Congress Government with taking the people for a ride by diluting the YSR-implemented welfare schemes and failing to implement the newly introduced schemes.

Addressing a huge public meeting at Kagajnagar in Adilabad district, Smt. Vijayamma said the present Government has no inkling of the people's problems.

'YSR used to asses and think of people's problems irrespective of his being in power or not and accordingly introduced several welfare schemes. But the present Government has no concern for people's welfare. The Government also failed to implement its recently introduced schemes such as Amma Hastam and Bangaru Talli in a systematic manner and sincerly,' she remarked, adding YSR had a special love for the people of Telangana.

Attacking the Government for abdicating the Pranahita-Chevella project which was initiated by the YSR regime, she said the project would have completed by now if YSR had been alive. 'YSR thought of irrigating agricultural lands in seven districts of Telangana with the Pranahita project but unfortunately it has been abdicated by the present Government after his death,' she said.

Criticizes Rytu Chaitanya Yatras

Smt. Vijayamma heckled at the Rytu Chaitanya Yatras being undertaken by the Government and asked: 'What are the Chaitanya Yatras meant for? While MSP (Minimum Support Price) for turmeric and cotton was Rs.14,000 and Rs.12,000 respectively during the YSR regime, it is now Rs.5000 and Rs.6000 respectively.

Are the Yatras meant for hiking the fertilizer prices by 300 percent and failing to supply free power to farmers?' Smt. Vijayamma said the farmers are being denied input subsidy and MSP on their agricultural produce.

She said the Congress government has failed to keep its promises of 2009 election manifesto and has been subjecting the people to various difficulties by increasing the power tariff and failing to implement the subsidy rice scheme.

While the Congress under the leadership of YSR promised to supply free power for nine hours a day and increase the quantity of subsidy rice scheme from 20 kg to 30 kg, she said, the Government has been cheating people in the name of Re. 1 a kg rice scheme. 'If you supply 20 kg under the scheme, families are being forced to spend a minimum of Rs.450 to meet the total requirement of the rice,' she said adding the people are being cheated by CM.

Vijayamma decries Naidu's stance

Smt. Vijayamma also targeted the TDP chief Chandrababu Naidu for supporting the anti-people Congress Government and said Naidu has been extending full support to the Government for selfish reasons. She called upon the people to extend full support to the YSR Congress party and teach a fitting lesson to both Congress and TDP in the next elections.

Konappa joins YSRCP

Former MLA Koneru Konappa and his supporters joined the YSR Congress party on the occasion. YSRCP leaders Indrakaran Reddy, Konda Surekha, Boda Janardhan and others also spoke in the public meeting.
