Cong workers outburst shook top leaders Hyderabad: The extended executive meeting of the AP Congress committee held in the City on Wednesday witnessed great outbursts of anger and pain from grassroots workers.
Unlike other occasions, leaders who participated in the meeting expressed their views freely in an attempt to bring the actual status of party workers to the notice of top brass.
Most leaders, who were given an opportunity by the APCC president to address a gathering of over 2,000 party workers consisting mandal, town and division-level presidents of the party, told the leadership in no uncertain terms that most of the party workers were 'begging on roads' whereas a select few of the party were enjoying lucrative positions.
'It's a tricky situation for all Congress workers. We put in a lot of hard work, including spen'ding our own money for the victory of the party and making sure that the party won for two consecutive terms in the State.
But despite this, majority of us have not only become poor but are begging to eke out our livelihood. This is the stark reality of Congress workers in the State,' a senior Congress leader from Rayalaseema said in his address.
Another Congress leader said that the party high command did not have a mechanism to track activities of party workers at the State headquarters. 'Most of the party workers are languishing in jails for organising protest programmes for the party.
And the State party leaders did not have any information regarding these people. This is very painful,' he said. The leader asked the party high command to recognise the services of people who work for the welfare of the party.
Another leader from Telan'gana region said that the high command does not have any data pertaining to leaders who have sacrificed their lives for the Congress. 'There is an interesting development going on in the State these days.
Leaders who enjoyed party posts are leaving the party in search of greener pastures in rival camps. But the real party workers are still with the party for years together. Unfortunately, the top leaders of the State do not have any idea about them,' he said.
APCC president Bosta Satya'narayana delivered his presidential address and presided over the event. The meeting was attended by CM N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Cabinet ministers.
