Thief pays for siblings' studies HYDERABAD: The Central Crime Station (CCS) police on Monday arrested a 26-year-old mason, who is also a notorious pickpocket and mobile phone thief.
He spends his crime earnings to pay for the MBA and BDS study of his siblings. Police also arrested a mobile shop owner who purchased the stolen phones from the accused.
According to police, Bandi Ramu, a resident of Meerpet, was a mason and a driver. His income from these professions is not adequate to run his own family and pay for the higher studies of his brother and sister. The burden of looking after his widowed elder sister's family is also on him.
His cousin Vijaya Kumari's husband G Rama Krishna, a City Dossier Criminal (CDC) of Meerpet police station, runs his family by organising picking pockets in city buses and stealing mobiles phones.
'Taking inspiration from Rama Krishna, Ramu started picking pockets in city buses in 2010. He spends for the education of his brother and sister and also supports his sister Divya Kumari and her three children.
Apart from picking pockets, Ramu steals from the handbags of women at Sultan Bazaar and other places,' said LKV Ranga Rao, deputy commissioner of police.
According to police, Ramu started stealing mobile phones a year ago and stole around 130 phones in and around Sultan Bazaar, Koti and Afzalgunj and sold them at Jagdish Market, particularly to Nadeem, owner of Favourite Mobiles, who deals in second-hand mobile phones.
Since 2010, Ramu earned lakhs of rupees. He even bought one Yamaha bike for his brother, a TVS moped for his sister and a Skoda Fabia (AP-10 AY 2232) for himself, Ranga Rao said.
Based on his confessional statement, police arrested Nadir alias Nadeem (33), a resident of Tawakkal Basera, Nampally and seized 50 high-end mobiles.
