Governor discuss T with Singh and Shinde NEW DELHI: Governor ESL Narasimhan called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Finance Minister P Chidambaram and Defence Minister AK Antony in the national capital amid reports that the Congress high command was busy finalising a package for Telangana.
Though the air was thick with rumours of a financial package for Telangana, Narasimhan remained tight-lipped. 'I did not discuss Telangana issue. Neither did I submit any report. Telangana is an issue that has to be settled by the Centre,' he told reporters after meeting Shinde. He added that law and order in the State was satisfactory.
Shinde too refused to elaborate. 'The Governor briefed me about the situation in Andhra Pradesh. On Telangana issue, discussion is going on at the highest level. When there is a decision, we will tell you,' Shinde said.
But there is speculation that the Congress top brass had summoned the Governor to Delhi since it is keen to know what could be the possible reaction in Telangana to the proposal of a financial package.
Now that the Centre has accommodated staunch integrationist MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao in the Cabinet, there is a school of thought that it was done so to silence opposition to any move in the direction of resolving the Telangana issue.
There are also reports that the Centre might call for an all-party meeting soon to test the political waters on whatever proposal it has in mind. Prior to that, Telangana Congress leaders are expected to visit Delhi in the last week of this month.
