Daughter-in-law seeks MLA Shanker Rao's arrest HYDERABAD: Congress MLA P Shanker Rao's daughter-in-law Vamsi Priya, on Tuesday, filed a writ petition in the High Court seeking action against her in-laws and their family members for allegedly harassing her.
She submitted that her life with husband P Shashank was normal for several years after her marriage in February 2005.
But it became miserable after the return of her sister-in-law Sushmita, a divorcee, from London, who stayed in the same house where she lived with Shashank, Priya said.
Her father-in-law and mother-in-law Vishwa Shanti, who were upset with the divorce of their daughter, have vented their anger on her, the petitioner said.
Sushmita instigated mother Vishwa Shanti and both of them have created a rift between her and Shashank, she said. She was compelled to leave the house after witnessing the 'unholy activities' of her sister-in-law and the family members drove her out, she alleged.
The petitioner, who is a Dalit, further submitted that a case was registered by the CCS women's police station against all the family members of Shanker Rao and a security guard, but the investigation went on at a snail's pace due to the influence of the MLA. The accused have obtained anticipatory bail fearing arrest.
However, in spite of court orders, the police have not arrested them till date, Priya said, adding that they have started sending threatening messages to her.
She requested the court to direct the police to take expeditious action against Shanker Rao and his family members under CrPC and arrest of all of them in the crime already registered by the police.
Besides the DGP and the SHO of Women's police station, MLA Shanker Rao, his wife Vishwa Shanti, daughter P Sushmita and son Shashank were named as respondents.
