KCR wants authentic survey of Telangana

Hyderabad, Aug 1 (INN): Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Friday asked officials to ensure that the proposed "Intensive Household Survey" is conducted in a serious and professional manner.

Addressing the officials at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) here, the Chief Minister said that the ambitious door-to-door survey would cover about 86.2 lakh families living in Telangana. There should be no haste to complete the survey and information about each and every family of Telangana should be gathered in a proper manner.

Stating that the survey would help the government in making relevant policies, he said the findings would ensure that the benefits of welfare schemes reach the real beneficiaries. He said the minute details related to the survey should be available from MRO to the Chief Secretary level officials at the click of the mouse.

The Chief Minister said that the survey would also expose the irregularities that took place during previous regimes. Citing an instance, he said that the bogus ration cards have outnumbered the deserving beneficiaries.

As of now, at least 50 per cent of white ration cards are bogus and they could be weeded out. He advised the officials including the Collectors and MROs to observe caution in issuing different certificates.

He said that the government would not tolerate lapses or irregularities in issuing certificates and each and every certificate must be issued after thorough verification.

Speaking about the proposal to distribute three acres of land to each Dalit family, KCR said that the scheme would benefit about 12 lakh Dalit families in Telangana. They include three lakh families living in Urban and nine lakh in rural areas. He also urged the officials to take immediate steps to remove encroachments from the government land.

KCR said that the TRS Government would not hesitate to take tough decisions in the interest of the Telangana without fearing for any consequences.

He said while the government would remain employee-friendly, it would not tolerate any kind of delays or irregularities in the implementation of schemes.

Referring to the claims of private colleges that the government still owes them Rs 1,360 crore towards fee reimbursement, the Chief Minister said that the government has already paid Rs 4,000 crore to the colleges.

He said several irregularities were found in the implementation of the schemes. He said some institutions have illegally claimed fee through fake enrolment of same students in different colleges. He said that the government would take action against such colleges after thorough enquiry.

The welcome speech was delivered by Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma. All ministers, District Collectors, Joint Collectors, DROs, MROs and other officials participated in the meeting.
