Barring 174 colleges from counselling fair: AG HYDERABAD: Telangana Advocate-General K Ramakrishna Reddy told the Hyderabad High Court that the private engineering colleges which had failed to comply with the conditions of university affiliation and the norms stipulated by the AICTE for conducting courses, were only barred from EAMCET 2014 counselling for filling seats in the state.
The AG, arguing on behalf of the Telangana State Technical Education Board and the JNTU-Hyderabad, placed his arguments before Justice A Rajasekher.
Reddy who was hearing a batch of petitions by the managements of private engineering colleges challenging the action of the varsity in cancelling affiliation to them for failure to comply with the AICTE norms and rectify academic deficiencies. A counter-affidavit was also filed denying the petitioners' allegations against the government.
As many as 174 engineering colleges in Telangana have been barred from participating in the EAMCET counselling process on the grounds that they did not have adequate infrastructure facilities and the requisite faculty. The managements of 140 of these colleges moved the HC challenging the cancellation of affiliation.
The AG pointed out that the petitioner colleges had failed to comply with the conditions of affiliation and the norms stipulated by the AICTE for conducting the courses.
