GHMC to take up restoration of heritage buildings Hyderabad, Aug 23 (INN): GHMC Mayor Mohammed Majid Hussain on Saturday said that the restoration of all heritage buildings would be taken up soon at a cost of Rs 100 crore.
The Mayor said that the buildings would be restored to their original position by using the material like limestone. He said no artificial material or cement would be used for restoration.
He said previously there was a heritage committee which used look after the heritage buildings in the entire jurisdiction of GHMC. But no maintenance works could be taken up as there were no budget provisions.
Keeping in view the importance of the maintenance of heritage structures, the GHMC has allotted Rs. 100 crores for the maintenance of the heritage buildings.
Earlier, the Mayor along with Charminar MLA Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri and other senior officials inspected some of the heritage structures at Quli Qutub Shah office, Divan Devdi and other places in the old city.
Speaking on the occasion, Ahmed Pasha Quadri said that the main aim of the visit to begin the restoration of Quli Qutub Shah office as it is one of the oldest heritage building. He said that the restoration of heritage structure like Clock tower at Mozamzahi Market too would be taken up shortly.
Former Mayor Mir Zulfequar Ali, Noor Khan Bazar Corporator Mirza Riyaz Ul Hassan Effendi, Engineer-in-Chief R Dhan Singh, South Zone Commissioner Balasubrahmanyam Reddy and senior officials from the Engineering, Town Planning and Health wings of GHMC have participated in the visit.
