Venkaiah flays loan waiver HYDERABAD: At a time when AP and Telangana governments are struggling to implement the crop loan waiver scheme, Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Sunday expressed reservations over the same.
'Farmers need good remunerative price not loan waiver,' he said and even opposed free power supply. 'Free power means no power,' he quipped.
Interestingly, he chose a farmers' programme, Rythu Nestam agriculture magzine's 10th anniversary function, to air his views. Venkaiah pointed out loan waiver was not a permanent solution to farmers' problems. 'Instead of waiving crop loans, State governments should try to provide goood remunerative price,' he suggested.
Further he said the country's economic condition was not good and offering crop loan waiver was not 'advisable' at this juncture. He also felt the country cannot come to the rescue of the farmers every time.
'It's not Narendra Modi, KCR or Chandrababu Naidu's money but public money,' he observed. Earlier in the day at another programme, Venkaiah said all those who live in Hyderabad are Hyderabadis and added none should inflame regional passions.
