Yadagirigutta to have second ghat road NALGONDA: The state government has released Rs 26.60 cr for the construction of a Second Ghat Road (SGR) to the Sri Lakshmi Narsimha Swamy temple at Yadagirigutta. The construction works are in progress.
It was in 2008 that the temple management had submitted proposals to the then Commissioner of Endowments (CoE), Hyderabad, for the construction of the 1.12 km-long SGR at an estimated expenditure of Rs 11.60 cr. The CoE had in turn forwarded the proposals to the Roads and Buildings department. But no action was taken by the latter.
Then, in 2012, the Kiran Kumar Reddy government had issued a GO No. 738 sanctioning Rs 26.60 cr for the construction of the SGR under the Major Districts Roads Projects (MDRP). But the amount was not released for some unknown reason.
Now with the present government releasing the amount, the work on the SGR has begun. A 975-metre-long stretch of the new road has been built from Mallapoor to Swagatha Thoranam spanning two bridges. After completion of the road uphill, the officials will start the road works downhill from Swagata Thoranam to the 'Goshala' area.
The officials of the Roads and Buildings told that the SGR, the works on which began in April this year, would be completed by this year-end.
Meanwhile, the devotees have expressed their dissatisfaction over the delay in the construction of the SGR. They point out that the inordinate delay in the execution of the project has led to a cost escalation of Rs 15 cr - from Rs 11.60 cr to Rs 26.60 cr.
They also point out that the absence of the SGR caused them much inconvenience to them as well as the temple officials and others.
Meanwhile, with the increase in the number of devotees visiting the temple over the past few years, the temple authorities had laid down a rule to regulate the traffic on the narrow First Ghat Road -- that for every five transport vehicles going up the hills, 10 will be allowed to go down.
This meant that the temple bound pilgrims had to wait for long hours to reach the temple.
