T-Congress asks government to help cotton farmers Hyderabad, Oct 30 (INN): The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday urged the State Government to take immediate steps to help the cotton farmers in the State.
Speaking to media persons at Gandhi Bhavan here, TPCC Kisan Cell Chairman M Kodanda Reddy and TPCC Spokesperson Kamalakar informed that they had visited the Yenomalu Market of Warangal district on Wednesday to study the conditions of cotton farmers.
They alleged that the government was not purchasing the cotton from farmers as it used to be done in previous years. Further, the government is paying very low price for the cotton.
They said last year the then Congress Government had purchased 146,747 quintals of cotton while this year so far, the TRS Government had purchased only 65 quintals of cotton.
Similarly, as against the price of Rs 5,000 per quintal paid last year, this year the cotton is being purchased by the authorities for Rs 4,050 per quintal.
They said that the government has put several conditions to purchase the cotton from the farmers which include Patta Pass Book, Aadhar Card and Bank Pass Book. They said many farmers are unable to sell their crop as they lack one of these documents.
Describing the TRS Government as anti-farmer, they said there has been no impact of representations made to Governor ESL Narasimhan and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on farmers' issues.
