Plea filed in HC over Srisailam row HYDERABAD: The ongoing controversy between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on the issue of generating power at the Srisailam reservoir has now reached the Hyderabad High Court.
MP SPY Reddy, representing Nandyal constituency, along with some agriculturists has filed a public interest litigation petition in the court seeking declaration of the Telangana government's decision to generate power at the Srisailam project even when the water level is below 854 ft as arbitrary and illegal.
The petitioners contended that the Telangana government's move was in violation of GOs 69 and 107 issued by the erstwhile state of Andhra Pradesh in 1996 and 2004, respectively.
Continued usage of left bank power house in Srisailam reservoir below the 854 ft level will mean no water flow (about 11 tmc) to the SRBC and KC canal which was granted as per the Bachawat Tribunal award, they pointed out.
Member-secretary to the Ministry of Water Resources, Principal secretary to irrigation of Telangana state, Principal secretary to irrigation of AP state and others were named as respondents.
