KTR insists on time-bound tenders for road repairs Hyderabad, Nov 22 (INN): Panchayat Raj Minister K Tarakarama Rao has asked the officials to adopt a different and practical approach to improve the roads across the Telangana State.
Addressing the officials in a review meeting on district roads held at State Secretariat on Saturday, the minister informed that tenders were being called for repairs of 12,039 km stretch of BT roads in the State.
However, he said that the repair works should be carried out in a time-bound manner by treating each mandal as a unit. He asked the officials to ensure that blacklisted contractors are denied work.
Further, he said that the Panchayat Roads should be constructed as per the guidelines of Indian Road Congress.
The minister said that priority sand roads in villages would be given top priority. He said that the State Government plans to develop 20,000 km of village roads in the next few years.
KTR said the State Government plans to spend Rs 10,000 crore in the next two years to develop the road network and Rs 4,000 crore have been allocated in the current year's budget for the same. He directed the officials not to compromise on quality of roads and warned of stern action if they are found violating the guidelines.
