Vizag student died in New Zealand in car mishap VISAKHAPATNAM: Cherukuri Santhosh Kumar (27), a native of Nandagiri Nagar near Akkayyapalem in Visakhapatnam city, died in a car crash in New Zealand on January 22.
The family members approached the district authorities and the police seeking their intervention in getting the body released by the New Zealand government and airlifting it to Visakhapatnam at the earliest.
Santhosh Kumar is elder son of Nookaraju and Nagalakshmi residing at Nandagiri Nagar. He went to New Zealand to pursue his postgraduation in 2012. About five months ago, he joined a private firm in Auckland as a sales manager.
As part of his official work, Santhosh went to Tauranga from Auckland and was returning home when his four-wheeler collided head-on with a huge truck and trailer unit coming in the opposite direction.
Sources said that he was driving the vehicle which crossed the centreline at a narrow bottleneck on the state highway and came into the path of an approaching truck and trailer unit in the opposite direction leading to the accident.
The victim's brother Rajendra said that Santhosh's friends have informed the family about the death on January 23 and assured to send it to Visakhapatnam within two-three days.
"Now, they are saying that due to weekend, the death certificate was not issued by the New Zealand officials so far. My parents are really worried and we urged the officials to intervene for speedy shifting of the body to Visakhapatnam," he added.
