Pending ration cards to be issued by April Hyderabad, March 26 (INN): Finance and Civil Supplies Minister Eatala Rajender on Thursday informed the Legislative Assembly that the process of receipt of applications for Food Security cards was still on.
Replying to a question raised by Congress MLA P Ajay Kumar during Question Hour, the minister informed that of over 1.12 crore applications, so far, nearly 89.21 lakh cards have already been issued. He said that the applications received for Food Security Cards were being verified and new ration cards would be issued after the completion of verification. He hoped that the pending cards would be issued by April end.
The Finance Minister said that as against 13 lakh Metric Tonnes of rice supplied last year, this year government intends to provide 22 lakh MT of rice among deserving beneficiaries. While Rs 1,000 crore were spent last year, this year the government has allocated Rs 2,681 crore. He also informed that the State Government has released about 5.58 lakh AAY cards issued by the Centre.
Eatala also denied of refusing ration cards to many migrant workers. However, he said if such cases are noticed, they would be enquired and Food Security cards would be issued to all eligible beneficiaries. The essential commodities being distributed through the said cards are Rice, Wheat, Wheat Atta, Redgram Dal, Sugar, Tamarind, Chili Powder, Turmeric Power, Iodised Salt and Kerosene Oil.
Legislators including Ajay Kumar, Vamshichand Reddy, T Jeevan Reddy of Congress, R Ravinder Kumar (CPI), Sunnam Rajaiah (CPI-M) and Ahmed Pasha Quadri (MIM) raised several supplementary questions on the issue.
