TRS Govt delaying GHMC polls due to fear: BJP Hyderabad, April 17 (INN): BJP floor leader Dr K Lakshman on Friday alleged that the TRS Government was deliberately delaying the elections for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) only due to the fear of defeat.
Speaking to media persons in Assembly premises here, Lakshman said it was highly unfortunate that the State Government did not submit the schedule for GHMC polls despite being reprimanded by the High Court on several occasions. He alleged that the polls were being delayed as the TRS is afraid of losing the elections. He said it was ridiculous on the part of the State Government to seek more time to conduct elections although the term of GHMC came to an end on December 2, 2014. He said as per the 74th Amendment Act of 1992, elections to the GHMC should have been conducted six months prior to the expiry of corporation's term. However, by delaying the polls on one pretext or the other, the TRS Government itself gave clear indications that it would lose the polls.
