TS delegation presents Photonics case to Niti Aayog Hyderabad, April 23 (INN): Seeking support for visionary high tech manufacturing in state of Telangana, a powerful delegation presented its case to National Institution for Transforming India Aayog (NITI Aayog) for first-in-the-world global manufacturing capability in Photonics, which uses light particles for IT, instead of copper.
Photonics is expected to largely supplant electronics in computing and processors due to looming physical limitations in electronics. The discourse of CMOS rooted, silicon chip is going to be transformed for a huge paradigm shift which could be the next revolution in technology sphere.
It is a fact that India has missed the bus of Industrial revolution and chip based computing revolution of 1970s. 'Photonics' offers India to lead into the next revolution. Telangana State purports to lead the way for India and the world by building dedicated manufacturing facilities for photonics technology, and creating continuum of skill development and education growth in the field.
The delegation from State of Telangana has put forth its case by a proposition that the Photonics Technology needs to be pitched into various programs of Government of India like Semi Conductor Fabs, National Supercomputing Mission, Digital India, Cyber Security, Smart Cities, High Speed Data Networks, Indian Processor and Advanced Avionics where Photonics can provide better alternative in various technological permutations for tremendous efficiency and cost arbitrage.
The high power delegation included Lok Sabha MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, Government Advisor BV Papa Rao, IT Secretary Dr Jayesh Ranjan, Dr. Nishanth Dongari of IIT Hyderabad and Dr P. Madhav, CEO of Photonics Valley Corporation (PVC), a non- profit entity created promptly by general order to jumpstart the scheme and make quick progress.
The ink is barely dry on an MoU signed in February 2015 by the Secretary, ITE&C Department for the State, and PhotonIC Corp of Los Angeles, who has developed unique and proven photonic technologies, wherein they pledge to jointly develop an ecosystem in Telangana to evolve, test and produce next generation chips and products by leveraging photonics. 'Telangana does not intend to miss the bus on global Photonics discourse' said Dr Madhav, 'In fact we intend to be driving it for India.'
