Advocate Commissioner will probe encounter: Abid Rasool Andhra Pradesh State Minorities Commission chairman Abid Rasool Khan on Saturday informed that the Commission has decided to appoint Advocate Commissioner to enquire into the Alair encounter in which five under trials were killed in police firing.
Addressing a press conference here, Abid Rasool Khan said that the Minorities Commission had received different petitions seeking probe into the encounter and had called for the reports from SP Nalgonda and Additional DGP (Prisons), Chanchalguda. "The Commission has received a detailed report from the Superintendent of Police, Nalgonda district, and is awaiting report from the Additional DGP (Prisons)," he said while announcing that the Commission would appoint an Advocate Commissioner to enquire into the incident, examine witnesses, procure record and file a detailed report within 15 days. The Commissioner has also decided to obtain a legal opinion from the Standing Counsel and send recommendations to Government in the interest of justice, he said.
The Commission has also decided to set up an Assistance Centre in the Commission's Office with the help of voluntary organisations to assist the Minority candidates in obtaining scholarships and other welfare schemes initiated by the governments of Telangana and AP and Centre. These services, to begin from May 15, will be at free of charge and available from 10 am to 5 pm on all working days.
Abid Rasool Khan said necessary directions have been issued to the officials concerned to issue minority certificates to the members of Jain community.
