Hyderabad Water Sports Regatta from 4th Hyderabad, May 28 (INN): The Yacht Club of Hyderabad, Hussain Sagar, will organise 1st Hyderabad Water Sports Regatta from 4th to 6th June as part of the Telangana Formation celebrations.
"The Hussain Sagar , for the last 100 years has hosted the sport of sailing and more recently Rowing, Kayaking and Canoeing. The jewel of the city of Hyderabad, Hussain Sagar has also played host to a multitude of regattas hosted by the Secunderabad Sailing Club, the EME and more recently the Yacht Club of Hyderabad. The newly formed state of Telangana is committed to the cleaning and beautification of the Hussain Sagar and has decided to include it in the list of places to be celebrated with the announcement of the 1st Hyderabad Water Sports Regatta at Hussain Sagar," Yacht Club President Suheim Sheikh said.
In association with the Telangana Sailing Association, the State Government will host the regatta that will include Kayaking, Sailing, Rowing and Canoeing. All the clubs and associations situation around the lake have been invited and a special relay in recreational Kayaks will be conducted in collaboration with the Greater Hyderabad Adventure Club. This is open to all citizens.
"Normally the regattas that are conducted are sport specific like Optimist or Laser or Hobie and it is therefore unique that a regatta at Hussain Sagar will include so many disciplines," Suheim Sheikh said.
The Monsoon winds have started inching up in strength and the heat wave is expected to cool down in a few days and after many years the Monsoon is likely to hit Hussain Sagar bang on time on the 7th June as has been the case for decades.
The Regatta will be hosted by The Yacht Club of Hyderabad and the Telangana Sailing Association in collaboration with Telangana Tourism and will be conducted annually in tandem with the state celebrations.
"We are proud to be part of the 1st Hyderabad Water Sports Regatta as the dream of a clean Hussain Sagar is finally beginning to unfold before our eyes under the aegis of the government that is deeply committed to sports, tourism and the environment" said BP Acharya, Principal Secretary, Tourism and Sports.
Information Technology Minister K Tarakarama Rao will be the Chief Guest at the closing ceremony on June 6.
