Naidu elected National President of TDP Hyderabad, May 29 (INN): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has been elected as the first National President of Telugu Desam Party.
Naidu's election marks the transformation of TDP from a regional to national political party. A resolution to this effect was also passed during the party's annual convention Mahanadu at Gandipet here on Friday.
Earlier, TDP leaders have filed 30 sets of nominations on behalf of Naidu. Since no other nomination was file, Naidu was declared elected to the post unopposed. Naidu has been heading the party since 1995 and was elected as the President for nine times.
Addressing the meeting later, Chandrababu Naidu challenged his Telangana counterpart and TRS President K Chandrashekar Rao to conduct the GHMC polls. He said that the fear of defeat has been preventing KCR from conducting the elections for Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation. He condemned TRS for luring the leaders of other parties and said that the TDP had the capability to produce new leaders to replace the defectors as cadre at grass root levels was still with the party.
