KCR wants DRDO to be named after Dr. Kalam Hyderabad, Aug 2 (INN): Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has requested the Central Government to name the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) after former president late Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
In his letter sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, KCR said that the Hyderabad-based DRDO has done extensive research in the area of defence and successfully performed many tests. Dr. Kalam has served as the Director of DRDO for a very long time and the organisation has achieved several milestones under the leadership of departed leader. He said the credit of establishment of several institutions like DRDL-Midhani, RCI and ICBM in Hyderabad goes to Dr. Kalam.
The Chief Minister said Dr. Kalam had a close and special association with the city of Hyderabad and therefore, naming DRDO after him would be a fitting tribute to the 'Missile Man' of India.
