Estimate Committee members visit city lakes
Hyderabad, Aug 11 (INN): The members of Telangana Legislature Estimates Committee on Tuesday visited the Durgam Cheruvu and IDL Lake to inspect the encroachments.
Speaking to media persons later, Committee member MS Prabhakar said that of 169 lakes in the city, nearly 120 lakes have been encroached upon by private parties. The Committee has sought information from the GHMC and other agencies on the FTL and extent of encroachment on each lake. During the committee's visit, some members of housing cooperative societies approached the members and countered the allegations of encroachment. They said they constructed the houses on approved layouts after seeking permission from the GHMC. In view of these claims, the committee had asked the GHMC to furnish complete information on how such permissions were granted.
Committee chairman Ramlinga Reddy and members DK Aruna, Janardhan Reddy, K Anjaiah and Veeresham also participated in the visit.
