Commissioner responds: old lady's problem solved Once again social media played a key role in solving the problem faced by a old woman in Vijayawada. Municipal commissioner Veerapandyan Ganesan responded to the public appeal through facebook and got the work done quickly.
In the process of constructing a drainage line, Vijayawada Municipal corporation officials demolished the compound wall of a house in Singhnagar area. An old lady who is residing in the house, and struggling to get her ends meet was bewildered by the act of corporation officials. There was no proper way to enter and exit the house as the compound wall and steps were demolished and she was afraid that even the walls of her house would break due to lack of support from the other side. She took the issue to the notice of Virabhadra Sastri who in turn assured her that he would do his best to get the problem solved. Sastri posted a photo of the house in facebook and requested his fb friends to look into the matter and help the lady. Many of them like Vamsi Krishna, MV Rao shared the issue and people like Satish Chaganti, Riyaz Gora, Raja Achanta made efforts to take it to the notice of corporation officials.
One person directly reported the issue to Veerapandyan Ganesan, municipal commissioner of Vijayawada through facebook. Commissioner took no time in responding and informed him that he will look into the matter. Commissioner spoke to the resident of the house and also sent engineers to rebuild the compound wall. "The house has been constructed without leaving the space for drain. So compound wall has been demolished for public purpose. However compound wall will be constructed on the own cost of VMC. I take this opportunity to appeal to the public not to encroach the public site and take up construction. Otherwise it may face these kinds of problems any time" commissioner posted.
How ever Commissioner Veerapandyan is receiving a great applause for his quick reaction. "Its our luck that Sri Veerapandyan, I.A.S. has come as our VMC Commissioner. Thank you Sir" one of the messages read.
