Warangal Gets Smart City Tag, Amaravati Qualified Union minister for Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu have come up with second list of fast track smart cities which will developed with help of central funding. Warangal from Telangana state has been qualified for the race. Apart from Warangal the list of cities includes Lucknow, Dharamsala, Faridabad, Chandigarh, Raipur, New Town Kolkata, Bhagalpur, Panaji, Port Blair, Imphal, Ranchi and Agartala
As per the announcement Warangal has improved by 13 percent in quality parameters to become eligible for Smart City Mission. Earlier this year Naidu announced the first 20 winners of Indian cities which will be made into smart cities and Vizag and Kakinada from Andhra Pradesh state has selected in the first list. No city from Telanagana has qualified to enter first list.
Tirupati from Andhra Pradesh has failed to get into second list and the above cities were selected on the basis of marks scored in the Fast Track completion.The new capital city of Andhra Pradesh Amaravati is qualified to participate in the smart city competition. With the latest inclusion of 13 cities, 25 states and Union Territories (UT) have been covered under Smart City Mission.
As per the Smart City Mission a total of 100 Indian cities developed as smart cities by 2019-20. Union govt will provide financial assistance of 48,000 crores in spanning of 5 years.
