5.5 lakh plants in AP get geo tagging Vijayawada, Sept 24 (INN): As part of Vanam-Manam programme launched by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu at Sunkollu village in Krishna district in June to increase the green cover in Andhra Pradesh, geo tagging was provided to 5.5 lakh plants in the state on Saturday.
As part of the Vanam-Manam programme organised at 315 places in the state 1,09,837 saplings were planted today. Andhra currently has 23 per cent green cover and another 3 per cent non-forest, besides 13 lakh hectares of degraded forest. The Chief Minister gave a call to everybody to plant saplings in a big way to protect the environment. The Chief Minister gave a call to take up plantation in four lakh acres per annum in next ten years. It may be noted that Chief Minister directed the officials to observe Vanam-manam programme on fourth Saturday of every month to take up plantation programme on a massive scale.
