TJAC Chief Kodandaram holds dharna Hyderabad, Oct 23 (INN): Telangana Political Joint Action Committee chairman Prof. M. Kodandaram on Sunday demanded that the Telangana Government constitute an Agriculture Commission to resolve the problems being faced by the farming community.
Kodandaram, who held at day-long dharna at Indira Park here, alleged that injustice was being done to farmers in Telangana State. He said farmers were facing severe hardship due to the wrong policies and decisions of State Government. He said although nearly 60 per cent of population in Telangana State was dependent on agriculture, the State Government has completely neglected the sector.
Kodandaram said by ignoring farm sector, the State Government was weakening the entire economy of the State. He said almost 90% of farmers hold less than 5 acres of land and every farmer in the State had an average debt of Rs. 90,000. He said Telangana could not progress unless State Government ensures development of agriculture sector.
The TPJAC chief said that the State Government should constitute Agriculture Commission and come up with a comprehensive policy on farm sector. He also demanded a new legislation to ensure supply of quality seeds to the farmers. He also questioned the government over providing social security to farmers.
Kodandaram also accused the State Government of forcible acquisition of land from farmers and demanded that it should be stopped immediately. He asked for setting up of Agriculture Fund.
Leaders of various political parties and organisations visited the dharna camp to express their solidarity with Kodandaram's dharna.
