GHMC to construct 12,000 individual toilets Hyderabad, Nov 19 (INN): GHMC Commissioner Dr. B. Janardhan Reddy said that the corporation was planning to construct 12,000 individual toilets in the current financial year.
Addressing a workshop on the occasion of World Toilet Day on Saturday, Dr. Janardhan Reddy said that the GHMC was planning to provide more civic facilities and high importance was being given to provide individual toilets to the citizens at free of cost. He said sufficient funds were being provided for the construction of the toilets. He said an amount of Rs. 12,000 has been earmarked for construction of each toilet. Of this, Rs. 8,000 would be borne by the GHMC and the remaining cost will be paid by the Central Government.
The GHMC Commissioner stressed on involved of Basthi Committees to take up the construction of individual toilets in a phased manner. He said that the corporation would be constructing modern toilets at a cost of Rs. 5 crore by this December end. He said tender process has been initiated for construction of both community toilets and individual toilets.
MLA Srinivas Goud, Swachh Bharat Ambassador and famous Poet Suddala Ashok Teja and cine film star Venu Madhav also addressed the workshop which was conducted by the GHMC in collaboration with SACI Waters and Water Aid Basthi Vikas Manch.
All Zonal Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, Medical Officers, representatives of various NGOs and senior officials attended the workshop.
