There is many a slip between the cup and lip. This was what happened actually to Sonia in her effort to become the PM of India. Let us pray she be firm on her statement and she shouldn't reconsider her decision on not to be the PM.
The reasons why she can't be the PM.
1. The first and foremost is her behaviour when India was in trouble both at 1971 and post emergency defeat of Indira Gandhi and Congress Party.
If one has to believe her statements that she is an Indian and die as Indian, she has to give clarifications.
Does any patriot, that to a member of freedom fighter's family, the member of a PM's family (who should be more responsible and be an example to common man at the time of crisis) leave the country and run away for life?
2. She never opted for our citizenship willingly (Evident of the fact that she applied 3 succesive terms to continue as Italian citizen but only an Indian resident due to her marriage). Only out of compulsion, she became an Indian citizen. She not even renounced her Italian passport but she surrendered it in Italian embassy.
3. What is her knowledge of the country? What are her opinions on Nation's most important issues? What would be our fate at International platforms on the issues that seriously concern the world and also those which are related to India's interests?
4. Anyone can live in any country if they get the royal treatment and affection from its people. Is Sonia doing any favour to the people of India by deciding to reside in the country? In fact, crores of money is being spent for her security. It is her fear, that no other place in this world is so safe to her and her children than India, that made her to continue to live in India. Still no one ever questioned for every one of this country respect her as a member of 'Gandhi' family and as a 'Daughter-in-law' of the country.
5. May be she once was reluctant and averse to Politics, but ever since she has plunged herself into mainstream politics, for whatever be the reason, she too is no different. If not, why should she claim to be the PM? If she is so concerned of her party's concerns and pleas, then why this drama? It is only after President Mr. Kalam expressed few doubts, she decided to opt out so that she can gain the sympathy of the sentimental people. If she is so indifferent to power, why shouldn't she clearly mention that Dr. Manmohan Singh or anyone for that purpose would be the prime ministerial candidate when she won the confidence of the allies?
6. Above all, there are few technicalities which question her credibility being a foreigner and which do not permit her to be the PM. Article 5 and 102 and 103 are the ones which are being stated again and again by the people who do not approve her in the supreme post.
7. So far she hasn't given any explanation on Bofors issue. She is the only person who can give a befitting answer but still she maintained the same silence. This secretive nature and unanswerable tendency creates doubts in the minds of the people.
If she decides to be the President/Leader of Congress Party, there is no objection. If it is her commitment to her family and the deceased mother-in-law and beloved hubby, let her dedicate to her cause. No one bothers. But if she aspires to be the PM, people of India can't accept. If she is so confident of people's mandate, let her call for a referendum and win. A single question without any confusion. 'Can people of India accept her in the role of PM?'. This will put an end to all speculation.
Unfortunately there are many tests to be passed and qualification to acquire for various posts, whether it is for a Peon or an IAS officer, but no such rules are there to access the efficiency and the deservance of candidates who aim to be our leaders.
This is the hightime now to think of such progressive measures to define yardsticks for the coveted posts.
