Bay Area Telugu Association organized a live concert by Padmasri Sri. S.P. Balasubramanyam on July 11. This is the third concert of SPB in the Bay Area. He had performed here in 1997 and 2000 at the previous concerts organized by BATA.
Sri. S. P. Balasubramanyam has carved a niche for himself in film industry and has established himself as one of the premier playback singers in Telugu Cinema, as well as movie industry all over India. He has been singing for over 40 years and has several hits to his credit that span multiple generations.
A concert featuring SPB is no ordinary event anywhere in the world. This concert was no exception. Telugu people in the Bay Area were looking forward for the concert and tickets were sold out well in advance of the show. There were long lines for ticket purchases and pickups at the theatre. BATA committee members indicated that they had record sales for on-line tickets.
The hall was filled with buzz and excitement in anticipation of the show at 6:00pm. SPB and his troupe were ready to start the performance well in advance of the show start time. Organizers delayed the start for 15 minutes to allow time for the people in lines to come in and enjoy the show. This was well appreciated by SPB and the audience.
Vijaya Aasuri welcomed SPB back to the Bay Area after a gap of four years and welcomed him onto the stage. SPB walked onto the stage accompanied by thunderous clapping from the audience. He started the show with a prayer for the brave souls that lost their lives in the unforgettable tragedy of 9/11/01 and requested the audience to accompany him for a minute of silence in honor of the departed souls.
