NRI student is in coma after a fatal accident

Sai Prasad Boddu, a former student of University of North Texas, Denton, TX was severely injured in an automobile accident and is in coma at Dallas Methodist hospital. This accident occurred on Oct. 16th involving Sai Prasad’s car and a truck. Sai Prasad is suffering from traumatic internal brain injuries causing sever contusions in the brain and has been in coma and on a life support since the accident. Dr. Shalan Greg and Dr. Giri Bala neurosurgeons are attending the case. 'As of now, Sai is out of danger, there is no need for any brain surgery, we are hopeful that he will come out of coma and off of life support system in a week or two but he needs to go through an extensive long term rehabilitation to regain his normal functions' Doctors said Sai Prasad Boddu graduated in 1999 with Masters in Engineering from BITS, Pilani, India. He completed his MS in Computer Science in 2001 from UNT, TX, worked as a Software Engineer at Nortel for one year. Sai Prasad's mother Mrs. Vijayakumari and sister Ms. Lakshmi Praveena have arrived from India to be with him during this critical period. Prasad Thotakura, a Community Leader of Dallas, TX formed and spearheading the volunteer committee. Thotakura, who is closely in touch with the hospital authorities and the family of Boddu is tapping all resources to help out the family during this pathetic situation. 'It is very unfortunate and heartening to see a bright student lay in the bed comatose for this long. No one can imagine the pain and suffering that the family and friends are going through right now. I hope this will be a happy ending very soon,' Thotakura said Sai Kolli, hosting the family of Sai Prasad Boddu, Korie Wagner, room-mate of Sai Prasad, Praveen Malraj, Vikrant Bangaru, Vijay Vempati, members of UNT ISA, TANTEX and many more who are part of the volunteering team are all sharing the responsibilities and extending their full support and cooperation. Prasad Thotakura thanked Dr. Konda Janardhan, Dr. Kakarla Mahendra and Dr. Chunduri Krishna Babu for taking time for reviewing the situation and consuling the family members. Also, specially thanked TANA for donating $500 towards this cause and several individuals and organizations for their generous contributions. Sai Prasad doesn’t have any health insurance and Telugu Association of North Texas (TANTEX) a non-profit organization is raising funds to help out him and cope up with this ordeal.
