India’s only lawless state is moving on with its elections and campaigning these days, yes I am talking about Bihar. This is one state where any person affiliated to Politics is either corrupt or a criminal. Bihar is through with two phases of elections, with only one phase of elections remaining. The two phases in Bihar were fascinating, tragic, violent and entertaining.
In India it is a common phenomenon that bijli, sadak, pani plus law and order make for a winning election. But the formula in Bihar goes as follows: Yadav plus Muslim plus a section of the backward and Dalit vote is enough to guarantee success. This is one state in India where verbal comments can make you either win or loose the whole battle.
Lets look how the people are exploited against votes.
EXPLOITATION IN TERMS OF RELIGION:
Muslim Exploitation:
The Muslim voters are exploited by saying that they assure compensation to the Bhagalpur riots. This makes the Muslim voters react to the call of the politicians and in return keep an illusion of getting the compensation. Bihar has one state which has a high ratio of Muslims.
Dalit Exploitation:
The situation in Bihar was never the good any time it has been in the same form from the past. Bihar is a state which is densely populated by the Dalits and these Dalits are the people who are regarded as the lowest grade in India. What the Politicians do is they exploit these dalits and make them work in such a way that they have to listen what the politicians say. Politicians are regarded as Kings by the dalits, because they are not shown the world beyond what they see.
Next comes the internal gang wars or say the Party-wars, this is something where all the major political parties of Bihar are tied down in some or the other way.
RJD:
Two RJD MP’s are resting in the jail one is Pappu Yadav an MP from Purnea and the other is Shahabuddun an MP from Siwan. Shahabuddin is in jail in connection with the abduction and murder of a Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) activist. And Pappu Yadav is arrested in connection of CPM (Communist Party of India-Marxist) MLA Ajit Sarkar.
BJP:
The Party tried to distribute CDs of the riots of Bhagalpur to exploit the Muslim voters against the Congress Party.
There are many more examples of gang war in the history of Bihar Politics. The next to come is the role of election commission on the code of conduct of these political parties...
ELECTION COMMISON ON CODE OF CONDUCT:
The Election Commission was negligent on the part of Code of Conduct of the RJD even when the Supreme head of the RJD was caught distributing money no action was taken against him.
Why is the Election Commission there? Is the code of conduct only for some parties and not for others? When a Commission is setup the rules should be same for all the members and should also be interpreted in a similar manner for the entire country.
Will Bihar be same post elections or the citizens will bring about a change?
