‘Oh my Gosh, it is raining. I need little shelter,’ hurried Randy on to the road. ‘I need 200 bucks to buy a CD player,’ pestered Lucy while getting into the shopping mall with her husband. Peter drove down the street with the wipers wiping away the water on the glass of his ‘Ford-Taurus’ as he is in want of buying a Cadillac and so wanting more money. At the other end he comes across a person with a gun in his hand wanting to take revenge on his enemy who took away his happiness. The rain stopped and the roads are filled with people in no time. ‘What is every body trying to do here?’ So exclaimed a wise person leaning on the walls of the shopping mall.
Being wise, a flow of thoughts flushed into the river of his mind occupying each and every cell of his body. The chain of his thoughts began- “Every one is in need of something. Every one is hungry for something. One person wants some shelter, the other wants to enjoy pleasures beyond his capacity, a rich man is hungry for more riches and a man of grudge is hungry to kill someone. Each desire is a necessity according to each one of them. But shouldn’t they limit their desires to the maximum extent? Each one wants to satisfy his hunger by hook or crook. When is the human being satisfied? But what is satisfaction and how to measure it?
Man is a bundle of endless desires. As one desire gets fulfilled, the other desire crops up. As one takes form, another imprints on man’s mind. Thus satisfaction of one desire leads to endless desires which makes a human being yearn for more and more in turn converting him into a greedy person. A greedy person is never satisfied. Less luggage, more comfort will make travel a pleasure. It is the quint essence of the concept ‘Satisfaction.’ Attitude is the true measure for Satisfaction. When a being understands the true meaning of satisfaction, it is then he will start reducing his desires. He will stop craving for materialistic things which are out of his reach. Move on with great objectives in life, but let your life not stop with the urge to satisfy endless petty desires.
It is Mind that is responsible for bondage and liberation. Mind is like a key. If you turn it to the left called ‘worldly desires’, it will lock you in the whirlpool of troubles. If you turn it towards the right called ‘God’, it will liberate you forever guiding you on the path of happiness and peace.
When man stops desiring, he will start to satisfy his own self. When he is satisfied, he will be immersed in endless bliss - a feeling that he achieved the whole world. Gaining the world’s riches is not satisfaction. Controlling the enemies in the outside world does not lead to satisfaction. Controlling one’s own six inner enemies of anger, lust, jealousy, avarice, attachment and ego is true victory.
Satisfy not until you move from darkness to Light, satisfy not until you move from immorality onto the path of immortality, satisfy not until you crush your ignorance and walk on the royal path of wisdom, satisfy not until you merge with God. When the heart is pure and filled with selfless love, it is then a human being is privileged to announce he is satisfied.”
With such thoughts roaming in mind, the man of wisdom said aloud so that all those people desiring for various things can hear him say – “With satisfaction, smile at life for it to smile back at you no matter how many turns your life takes. The ultimate measure of man is not how he struggles to pacify his endless thirst for desires but how he controls his greediness with a change in his attitude . Step on to the ladder of ‘Satisfaction’ in order to live a peaceful life. Man struggles to satisfy himself with the only objective of attaining happiness. But happiness is in him, not in the material objects. When he realizes this, he will stop searching for it outside in the materialistic world. True happiness of a tree lies in bearing a fruit. Similarly human life is a tree. True happiness lies in bearing the fruit of satisfaction on the land of his heart. The key to happiness is Satisfaction and not earning immeasurable riches which in turn diverts man towards avarice.
