Articles: My Experience | Try to be yourself - Mrs. manjari
| |
I have just thought of writing this after reading an article how typical our Indian behaviour is even if they live for ages abroad. As per my experience, I have come across people of all sorts. Most of them belong to a category 'Matalabi' in Hindi. It means people just come to you when you are in a foreign country and if you are new and if they are staying here for a bit longer, they act as though they are interested and keep collecting information about your job trials etc. It happened with me, I came across some people who used to call me day and night and I thought they are going to help me atleast verbally to guide me the best way to get settled in a foreign land. But I had horrible experience. Whether they are interested or not by the time you find out you will have shocking experiences. Some show too much interest in you and they are capable of working against you too. So if someone says 'give my reference to your prospective employer'. Please take care. It happened with me. After getting through all the tests and when I was in dire need of a job here, when the company called that so called person, I did not even come to know about that. I did not get a job. But after sometime I proved myself that I am capable of getting a job based on my experience in India and my Managing director wrote an email saying that 'She will definitely be an asset to any organisation'. Ironically, these so called friends are not friends. They come to you just to collect information and try to show sympathy to you. But after few years, when you start growing they feel so jealous of you, they will not say even 'hello' because they are never your friends. So plese take care when you give information to anyone about you. Especially it is a shame Indians getting scared of Indians. You will find very few who are genuinely interested in you. I also find these caste differences even today where people come for their living to a foreign land. I think, we Indians will never learn how to really life with amicable and understanding and friendly nature. There are always comaprisons, jealousies and back-biting and then work against each other and form groups. Who really works for society? But we should not be pessimistic in this. We should not wait to see 'Who will bell the cat'? type. Let us all like minded people make a biginning to make a difference and try to bring in change. It is never late than never. There may be people who really want to contribute for the best of the society. Let us all make an effort to change these attitudes.
Ultimately we have to be ourselves and we should not change if we are convinced that we are feeling is correct and if it is for the good of the society.
