Jaipur: Mahendra Singh Dhoni powered India to a comfortable six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka with 3.5 overs left in the third one-day international here Monday to give the hosts a 3-0 lead in the series.
Dhoni's (183 not out) savage power hitting despite suffering from cramps for about half his innings, got him the man of the match award in what was a day for wicketkeeper-batsmen, as his opposite number Kumara Sangakkara also hit an unbeaten 138 earlier.
The right-handed Dhoni came in at the fall of Sachin Tendulkar (2) and immediately went on a rampage. Virender Sehwag (39), Rahul Dravid (28), Yuvraj Singh (18) and Venugopal Rao (19 not out) all played second fiddle to the century maker.
Appropriately, Dhoni finished the match with a six over midwicket in an innings that contained 15 four's and 10 sixes.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and set the hosts a target of 299, thanks largely to Sangakkara's heroics. He put on a 151-run third wicket stand with Mahela Jayawardene (71) that was the backbone of the Lankan innings.
The teams meet again for their next encounter in Pune Thursday.
