Articles: Philosophy | Universe - is it a picture painted by the human mind! - Ms. shantala kottisa
| |
Recently, I have read a book called 'The Self Aware Universe' by Amit Goswami. He is an Indian working as a Physicist in the Unites States at the moment. I could not put down the book till I approached its last page. Before you infer that this is just a book review, let me quickly tell you it is not. But this book had me see something vital about the projection of the human mind on the physical universe through the veils of culture and religious thought.
Amit speaks about something called the 'self referential frame work' of the human mind in the light of quantum physics. A 'self referential perception' could be expalined in simple terms as a painter who draws a picture and finds himself in the picture as drawing the picture. To put it in other words it is a circular perception as like we have circular logic. you might be wondering where I am leading.
Well! I asked myself this question when I read that book as to whether Amit could have understood the experimental results of Quantum Physics in such a way if he lacked any sort of grounding in Indian Philosophical Thought, wherein one of the most important tenets is the non distinction of the microcosm with the macrocosm. Microcosm here meaning the individual who is portrayed as the world and macrocosm meaning the enitire universe. Is it not true then that human mind with its prior thoughts and experiences conjures up the concepts of science and how the world works to a great extent!
